Project Description
Preparation of a detailed report on the education sector in Bangladesh in general, and the projects financed by IDB in particular. This includes evaluation of the IDB efforts in supporting education in Bangladesh, as well as the developmental and institutional impact of IDB interventions.
Reviewed the status of education sector in Bangladesh, highlighting the progress made towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in education; namely universal primary education and gender equity.
Assessed whether the Bank’s objectives were consistent with the needs of the country.
Provided an overall assessment of the outcome of the Bank’s education assistance in terms of expanding access and improving quality of education with special focus on the number of students benefited from these projects (past and current), the number of schools constructed, and the number of teachers trained, curriculum development, and educational outcomes.
Evaluated the institutional and developmental impacts and the sustainability of the Bank’s projects and highlight the future challenges facing the education sector in the country.
Drew lessons from the Bank’s past experience and made recommendations for possible future interventions.
Accompanied the OEO (The Operations Evaluation Office) mission to the country. This included field visits to some selected projects outside the capital city of Dhaka.
Conducted interviews and collected relevant information during the OEO mission to the country.
Prepared a short Back-to-Office Report (BTOR) on the findings during the mission.
Submitted the detailed report to IDB after receiving the comments from the IDB-OEO Office.
